Polaroid

After years of yearning I finally bought my first Polaroid camera, which looks a little something like this…

I got this beautiful machine from one of the UK’s finest camera shops, The Real Camera Co in Manchester. I also bought a pack of out of date film, which after a few wasted efforts on my part produced these magenta images.

The second photo is of the Imperial War Museum North on Salford Quays, which is currently exhibiting works by Don McCullin, a photojournalist widely renowned for his war photography. His photos are extraordinary and often made me question whether I should be appreciating them aesthetically at all.

I bought it for £40 (inc the pack of old purple film). It’s compatible with this Fuji film FP-100 which is still in production. It’s a bit different from the classic Polaroid stuff (you get a slightly bigger rectangular image, not a square one, and you don’t have the white space underneath to write captions like ‘me in napa ‘98′). the main reason i bought the camera though is that it looks like a hero.
